Catholic Charities of Philadelphia’s Family Service Center at 7340 Jackson St. last week provided school bags and supplies to children for the school year.
The bookbags were blessed by the Rev. Jack Kolodziej, OSFS, who is the Provincial of the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province and school minister at Father Judge High School.
The Aug. 19 event also featured a school supply scavenger hunt, light refreshments and a book and blanket giveaway.
Children read a Promise Pledge for the school year and were given a pack of gum with the words, “Stick with it,” and apples to give to their teachers on the first day of school.
Parents were given literature on homework tips, backpack safety and back-to-school routines and checklist.
The youngsters received tips on practicing good manners while their parents were given suggestions on positive affirmation.
Catholic Charities center’s services include food and diaper pantries, prenatal and parenting support, financial support and connection to public benefits and other resources for healthy family living. ••
