September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation is bringing the Philadelphia community together through a series of events. They will turn the city teal with a Phillies game and building lightings, encouraging everyone to support the cause by wearing teal and spreading awareness.
In addition to observing Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation is celebrating 25 years since its founding. After a quarter-century, the SROCF has raised over $7 million, makes key research grants, advocates at the federal level and educates women about the symptoms of ovarian cancer.
“As we celebrate 25 years of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, we remain driven by our mission to support this community of fighters,” SROCF co-founder and CEO Robin Cohen shared. “Turning Philadelphia teal is just one way of telling these women that they are not fighting alone in September, or any day.”
There will be a range of citywide initiatives over the course of the month, providing everyone with an opportunity to engage with the movement and spread awareness. Events to watch for include:
Teal Lightings Across Philadelphia — Iconic buildings around the city will turn teal throughout September to raise awareness:
- Boathouse Row – 9/1
- Ben Franklin Bridge – 9/4
- City Hall – 9/10, 9/11, 9/12, 9/25
- Xfinity Mobile Arena – 9/10, 9/25, 9/27
- PECO – 9/10, 9/11, 9/12
- Liberty One and Liberty Two – 9/10, 9/11, 9/12
Wear Teal Day – Friday, Sept. 4 — Join thousands by wearing teal, the official color of ovarian cancer awareness, to work, school or on social media. Wearing teal is an important way to represent unity and spread the message.
Phillies Ovarian Cancer Awareness Night – Friday, Sept. 25 — The Philadelphia Phillies will dedicate a home game to ovarian cancer awareness, kicked off by the SROCF’s Tealgate! Fans wearing teal will unite at Citizens Bank Park to show their support, and a portion of ticket sales purchased through the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation will directly benefit the Foundation’s lifesaving mission. ••
