A politically outspoken radio commentator. A burlesque performer known as the Cajun Queen. A daughter questioning what she carries forward from both. The LoLo Show brings together a unique Philadelphia family story to explore how the families that shape us can also leave us searching for who we want to become.

Producer and director Lois Burak will introduce the documentary in progress and present its sizzle reel during a Facebook Live event on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 8:30 p.m. The public presentation offers viewers and potential production partners a first look at the film’s story, tone and visual approach.

Through letters her parents exchanged before their marriage, family home movies and archival

newspaper coverage, Burak reconstructs her parents’ story and examines how it shaped her own.

Their unconventional relationship challenged expectations about women, marriage and family life, influencing their daughter’s understanding of herself and her own relationships.

The story speaks to people who grew up in dysfunctional families and continue to carry the weight of those experiences. For Burak, the search for belonging eventually led to an unlikely pursuit: bringing her own radio show into Howard Stern’s orbit. That pursuit becomes part of a larger story about finding her voice, seeking creative connection and making room for new possibilities.

The film reveals parallels between the political labels and public judgments of Marvin Burak’s era and those circulating on social media today. The platforms have changed, but the impulse to label people and cast judgment feels familiar.

“For a long time, I felt I needed a fairy-tale ending before I could tell this story,” Burak said. “I’ve come to realize that a life doesn’t have to lead to fame or have everything neatly resolved to be worth sharing. At this stage of my life, I’m more comfortable with who I am, and I don’t want to look back wishing I’d never tried. Making this film gives me a way to express myself creatively and connect with people who may recognize something of their own lives in mine.”

Burak is seeking funding and production partners to help complete the documentary. The sizzle reel was created to introduce the project to those potential partners and is being shared publicly to connect the story with a wider audience.
