Chemistry, mentality key for 76ers title run

LeBron James coming to the Philadelphia 76ers is great news. But just like other people might be thinking I hope this means an NBA title.

Our home team of the 76ers has not won a title since 1983. 43 years ago it happened. So hopefully now in this two-year contract deal this can happen with LeBron during his time here.

The whole team with the coaching staff of Nick Nurse has to have chemistry on and off the court. Most importantly the mentality of having a winning season to go all the way.

A nice work of art at 20th and Oregon

As a lifelong resident of South Philly and a teacher who used art, including painting murals, to teach science, I was very moved by the front-page report by Mark Zimmaro on a recently completed mural in South Philly (“All-Star Week highlights include new mural at 20th and Oregon,” July 22).

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of South Philly resident Christina Di Michele, Executive Assistant to Jane Golden, Founding Director of Mural Arts Philadelphia, an incredible mural was completed on a huge wall owned by CVS at 20th and Oregon. It is painted in all shades of blue and white and honors the most popular themes in Philadelphia. They include historic figures like William Penn and Benjamin Franklin, plus the Liberty Bell. It also pays tribute to popular food items and other aspects of our unique culture in the birthplace of America.

So we must thank not only Christina Di Michele, but all the artists who contributed their talent to this historic work of art. Of course we must also be grateful to reporter Mark Zimmaro and the editors of the South Philly Review for covering this memorable event in our community.

Hats off to all of them. Well done!
