The Secret Cinema returns to Glen Foerd on Thursday, Sept. 10, for a one-night-only presentation of the very rare 1921 silent film “The Blasphemer.” Live musical accompaniment will be provided by musician Don Kinnier, on Glen Foerd’s restored 1902 Haskell Pipe Organ.
The screening will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Glen Foerd, 5000 Grant Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m. for visitors to explore the historic mansion and its grounds before the program begins in the second-floor art gallery (stair access only).
“The Blasphemer”, directed by O.E. Goebel, is a rarely screened silent melodrama about a wealthy businessman, played by George Howard, whose pursuit of greed and infidelity leads to his dramatic downfall. Produced by The Catholic Art Association to promote spiritual virtue, the film combines a moral tale of redemption with sensational plot twists, strong performances and striking period photography.
Concessions will be available for purchase at a pop-up bar before and after the event, including soft pretzels, soft drinks, beer and wine. General admission is $25, and $20 for students and seniors.
