State Rep. Jared Solomon held a veterans appreciation breakfast and resource fair on Nov. 9 at Knights of Columbus Holmesburg Council.
Veterans and their families were invited for breakfast and to talk to the following vendors: PACTforAnimals.org, which fosters pets of active-duty military members; the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center; Washington Crossing National Cemetery; Philadelphia National Cemetery; the Office of the City Controller; Boots to Health Foundation; the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; AHARI (A Home Is A Right); and American Legion Post 810.
City Controller Christy Brady was in attendance.
Solomon is chairman of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee and a captain in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He told the crowd that the country needs more people in the military and needs to offer pay and other incentives and improve the conditions at military posts to retain current members. Specifically, he said the National Guard could use more doctors, nurses and lawyers. He said PA VetConnect does a good job linking veterans to benefits they’ve earned.
There was a raffle for two bikes, and the winners were those who came closest to the number Solomon chose from 1-50. ••
