The Creative and Performing Arts girls volleyball team pulled out a thrilling come-from-behind four-set victory over Thomas Edison on Sept. 17 to win its third consecutive match in the early season.
The Pegasus received contributions up and down the lineup as they raised their record to 3-1 on the season.
After dropping the first set to the Owls, 25-20, CAPA stormed back to even the match by taking the second stanza 25-18. With the momentum brewing in their home gym at the Palumbo Recreation Center in South Philly, the Pegasus took a dominant 25-15 set before closing it out with a 25-23 final set.
The game was a rematch of the Public League Invitational Tournament Championship, which CAPA won last year.
“This was definitely a big win since we played (Thomas Edison) last year in our PIT championship game,” said junior Kyla McCormac. “This season has been super fun. Our team works so well together and you can definitely feel the energy and love on the court.”
CAPA was led offensively by Brooklyn Weaver (20 kills, three blocks) and Isabella Pickens (12 kills) up front. Nora Dorn (21 assists) and Savannah Melendez-O’Brien (16, seven digs) provided strong playmaking efforts while Mirola Sidarous (seven digs), Zoe Meer (five digs) and Akira McCall (five digs) were the backbone of the defense.
“This win was big after our first loss of the season against Masterman,” said Meer, a senior. “We needed this to show us we could still win. This season has been such a fun experience, especially with all our new players coming out of their shells.” ••
