Cousin’s Grocery Market has opened at 1607 Bridge St. (at Frankford Avenue), in a former Walgreens. The market is across the street from the Frankford Transit Center.
Owner Mohammed Ibrahim said there are more than 40 employees, all from the community.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays, and there is plenty of parking in the lot.
Ibrahim hopes the store helps a Frankford neighborhood that he calls a “food desert.”
Cousin’s had a soft opening in June and welcomed the community for a grand-opening celebration on June 27.
Tents were set up outside to keep visitors out of the heavy rain. The celebration included a DJ, photo booth and free raffles, water ice, Dietz & Watson hot dogs, Goya products, Jamaican patties from Grace Foods and beverages from Quaker, Cafe Santo Domingo and Nourish Kings.
Cousin’s features well-known American brands, along with international foods. The market includes a full fresh meat case, bakery, produce aisle, deli and fresh bread. ••
