Shayla Smith is now the Public League’s all-time leading scorer.

Smith, a senior at Universal Audenried Charter School in Grays Ferry, eclipsed a 29-year-old high school girls basketball record set by Shawnetta Stewart, who attended University City High School, which closed in 2013.

Stewart, a 1996 graduate, later played at Rutgers University and is enshrined in the school’s hall of fame and was drafted by the Orlando Miracle of the WNBA.

Stewart’s longstanding record of 2,501 career points was surpassed by Smith by one point on Feb. 13.

Smith, a Penn State commit, scored a team-high 47 points as Audenried defeated Carver High School of Engineering & Science, 82-23, in the quarterfinal round of the PPL playoffs.
