Record day for Academy at Palumbo

The Academy at Palumbo enjoyed a record-breaking day at the District 12 AAA track and field championships at the Germantown Supersite on May 15-16.

The girls 4×100 meter relay team broke the District 12 record with a winning time of 47.95, while the 4×400 relay team set a school record with a time of 5:58.67, which took second place at the meet. In addition, the Griffins took home nine top-three medals in individual events including a gold medal by Zeinab Doumbia in the 400 meter run (58.32).

Jayden Jordan-Loran captured a pair of medals as he won silver in the pole vault with a school record of 11 feet, 6 inches and a bronze in the javelin (146-4), finishing just behind teammate Adley Fleming (146-6), who took silver.

The Griffins put another 2-3 finish in the books as Aniylah Whiting (25.15) and Daijah Lopez (25.62) took silver and bronze, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Penelope Mobley took a pair of silver medals in the 100 high hurdles (15.17) and 300 intermediate hurdles (46.07).  

Neumann-Goretti’s Eric Dorsey III took second place in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 8 inches.
