Fuzzy math
The word “Skill” should have quotes around it because the outcome of these games is completely random. The only skill needed by the player is to recoup some of the money they gambled away.
But, I am not surprised that our legislators cannot do basic math. They proclaim that a $500/month fee per machine would generate $300 million in state tax dollars in the first year. Let’s see. The $500/month equates to $6,000 a year collected from the 10,000 businesses stated in the article. Let’s be generous and assume that every business has two machines. In that case, the state would collect the $ 6,000/year from 20,000 machines. This yields $120 million – far short of the $300 million projection.
