A safe place for kids to play
What a pleasure it was to read Mark Zimmaro’s report in last week’s South Philly Review about improvements to a community playground in our neighborhood (“Best small playground opens at E. Passyunk Community Center,” Aug. 12).
According to Zimmaro, the EPCC received a state grant of $75,000 in 2022 for changes to its outdoor playground at 11th and Mifflin streets, thanks primarily to state Rep. Elizabeth Feidler and state Sen. Nikil Saval with support from the city government. This grant was used to install new outdoor swings and climbing equipment to make it more fun to play in a safe environment.
As a mother, grandmother and retired teacher, I am fully aware how important it is to provide safe places for young children to play. Those days of just letting kids run around in the street should be completely over.
So let’s be grateful to state Rep. Fiedler, state Sen. Saval, Councilman Mark Squilla, Phila. Parks and Recreation officials and community leaders for their success in providing this safe and great place to play for our children.
