We are the champions

The Philadelphia Eagles winning Super Bowl LIX brings a great vibe to our city and parts of southeastern Pennsylvania.

This game was an extraordinary comeback performance from the last Super Bowl LVII in 2023 losing to the same team the Kansas City Chiefs.

But now in 2025 it is nice to have something to be celebrating in our city. With the second Super Bowl win since 2018 versus the New England Patriots.

The whole Eagles roster, owner Jeffrey Lurie, Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman, head coach Nick Sirianni and rest of the coaching staff gave us a fantastic season and franchise.

The benefits of the arts

It was very encouraging to read the news in the Review that Councilwoman Rue Landau finished a citywide survey of multidisciplinary arts in Philadelphia (“Landau completes survey on arts,” Feb. 12). Especially since the closure of the University of the Arts, the subject of support for our creative community is becoming a serious question.

According to the report, Landau not only sent around a written survey to multidisciplinary artists but recently conducted a panel discussion at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. That way she could ask artists directly about the problems facing the creative community during these challenging times. The panel consisted of a variety of creative professionals including muralist Jane Golden, artist Rachel Zimmerman, and was moderated by Landau’s Arts and Culture Liaison, Lauren Rinaldi.

As a career elementary school teacher who used all forms of art to instill learning into the minds of young children, I fully appreciate what Councilwoman Landau is trying to do. She is trying to save the very fabric of our city. Research has proven that the arts produce a broad spectrum of benefits ranging from fine motor skills to creativity and improved mental health. I recall from years of experience how it opened the world to young minds. They benefited from music, painting, drawing and other forms of creativity like acting in plays.

So let’s please encourage such movements to restore support for the creative and performing arts in Philadelphia. Art education especially needs to be given financial assistance. Every school should have an arts department. And maybe someday we can reopen a university dedicated to all the arts.
