Explosion averted
On Oct. 9, officials with the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announced that Evgenii Sadrislamov, of Tacony, was arrested and charged after having possession of explosives that were allegedly found in his home possessing weapons of mass destruction.
According to news reports it was 50 pounds of improvised explosives devices in a bomb makeshift laboratory.
If the explosives were to have gone off they would have been strong enough to destroy homes on the 7100 block of Montague St., where Sadrislamov lived.
Making bombs as a hobby should not be talked about and happening at all. It was also reported that this happened four years ago with Sadrislamov manufacturing weapons.
All of the explosive-making products should have been ceased immediately so no more ammunition would be produced or present in the home.
The ATF bomb squad and Homeland Security could have had a way bigger problem that night. But thankfully there was no explosion.

Art is healthy for the brain
It was such a nice surprise to read Crystal Herrera’s report on the expected transformation of a vacant, historic bank building in Old City to a dynamic creative arts center (“An arts space rich in creativity,” Oct. 23). Credit for this change goes to a group of local artists led by muralist Meg Saligman.
The piece describes the dramatic change being made to the former Manufacturer’s National Bank on North 3rd Street into a location for ongoing creativity by Philadelphia artists from all fields The new space will be called Ministry of Awe and should open in about a year.
It was awesome to read about all the proposed activities from murals to live performances to poetry and even the use of artificial intelligence. This is not your normal art museum but a live action center for all kinds of creativity. It is meant to attract a variety of artists and tourists. What an ideal venue for the very concept of creativity! It will no doubt be full of surprises and unending new works of art.
It is a proven fact that all art, including music, is healthy for the brain. Children especially benefit from exposure to the arts. We should all be encouraged and supportive of this amazing new project.
How nice also that there will be continuous funding for this project including the city and state as well as donors.
As always I am grateful to the South Philly Review for reporting news that gets overlooked elsewhere. Well done.
