Stop illegal car meetups

Illegal car meetups have to come to a close in our city of Philadelphia. It is known that the meetups are in retaliation to the PPD increases of enforcement against the meetup participants in past recent months.

Understand that having an own way of fun is one thing but doing the meetups overnight repeatedly is disturbing the peace. Such as drifting, setting off fireworks, starting fires, vandalizing police vehicles.

It is shocking that the illegal car meetups have taken place right in front of City Hall government building where one would think a high police presence would be patrolling on location.

The Philadelphia Police Department has to have officers patrolling overnight finding a way to avoid the illegal car activity from happening again. With strategies to avoid the meetups from starting up.

Deputy Police Commissioner of Patrol Mike Cram, Deputy Police Commissioner Francis Healy and City Council President Kenyatta Johnson need to address solutions to control the environment and have no more car meetup problems.

A catastrophic scene is what occurred and is causing a danger to the city. But it goes back to the Philadelphia police officers patrolling the streets making sure this reckless act of riot does not escalate any further than it already has.

Damages, police being attacked, is all chaos that is erupting the city. Police have to get full control enforced to stop this.

Your chance to see Guys and Dolls

What a pleasure it was to read Tom Waring’s report on the Oct. 11-13 performance of one of my favorite musicals of all time, “Guys and Dolls,” at the Venice Island Performing Arts Center in Manayunk (“A family affair,” Oct. 2).

I can still recall seeing the 1955 full color movie starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. They performed roles as rough, tough gangsters and gamblers from the ’20s and ’30s with gorgeous, talented girlfriends. Of course their performances were spectacular.

Also, as a years-long subscriber at the Walnut Street Theatre, I have seen this incredible musical on stage in 1988.

Waring’s article describes the dedication of a talented group of stage performers, The Star Players, to presenting this musical among others. He details their personal relationships, which have inspired even better performances. It was especially fascinating to read how an entire family of parents, son, daughter, aunt and cousin are all in “Guys and Dolls.” How special is that?

It was very helpful of Waring to provide contact information on how to buy tickets in advance. Here is that information again for those who would like to attend this coming weekend: Venmo @TheStarplayers or at Holmesburg Recreation Center, 4500 Rhawn St. You can also call Bill Arthur at 215-685-8714 for information. Tickets are also available at the door.
