Creating jobs, improving the environment

As a retired science teacher, mother and grandmother, it gave me great satisfaction to read Mark Zimmaro’s report on the recent passage of a state bill to fund solar panels on school grounds (“Fiedler’s Solar for Schools plan passes,“ July 24).

The report describes in detail the importance of HB1032 written by state Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler and signed into law by Gov. Josh Shapiro. The law, supported by both parties, will provide state grants to Pennsylvania school districts to help finance and install solar panels on school grounds.

The benefits of this unique program go beyond producing solar energy. It will create union jobs and provide career-training opportunities for students, while improving the environment and saving money.

Thanks to Mark Zimmaro and the South Philly Review for reporting this remarkable story of Solar for Schools — a 21st-century answer to climate change. Thanks especially to state Rep. Fiedler for writing it. We need more laws like this to fund more environmentally safe ways to obtain energy, while increasing employment. Our posterity will be grateful.
