Mark your calendars for the Oct. 4 Italian festival
By now, I hope most should know that the middle initial “C” in my name stands for my maiden name, Cipollini. It means “little onions” in Italian. Since I am Italian on both sides, I am very much interested in Italian culture. I grew up in the same home as my maternal immigrant grandparents. Some of my favorite memories are of visits to Italy as a young woman. It is all good.
So it should therefore come as no surprise that I was very interested in the report in last week’s Review about the planned Italian Festival in October (“Food, music and plenty more at Oct. 4 Italian festival,” Sept. 23).
As the report states, there will be a huge street festival near St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church on the 1700 block of S. 9th St. This latest celebration of Italian culture, food and music has been going on since 1987. The festival starts at noon and continues until 8 p.m. I would love to visit.
As the report states, the good news is that attendance is free. They will of course charge for any food or beverage served, but there is no fee for listening to live music and watching dancing performances. We should all be praying for good autumn weather! Let’s mark our calendars for Sunday, Oct. 4, at noon to have some real fun!
