A nice partnership

Surely anyone who has followed many of my letters should be aware that I am descended from both paternal and maternal immigrant families. My late twin brother and I would never have been born if all four of our grandparents and also our dad had stayed in Italy. Like most offspring of immigrants, we grew up grateful to be citizens of this country.

Of course I am concerned about the safety and welfare of modern-day immigrants seeking a safe passage from their often dangerous home countries to a better life in the United States.

So I read with interest the article by Mark Zimmaro in last week’s Review (“Low Cut Connie partners with Comunidad Garces,” Oct.14).

Zimmaro’s report describes how rock ‘n’ roll musicians Low Cut Connie have been partnering with an immigrant support group, Comunidad Garces. Their joint aim is to help new immigrants to feel not only welcome but protected from bigotry.

I especially enjoyed reading how Comunidad Garces helps immigrants to find education and health care. All immigrants should be able to receive such assistance.

So bravissimi to these courageous partners both for helping new arrivals and also contributing to the 250th anniversary of our country’s birth. May they continue to encourage the growth and welfare of the United States of America!
