Brava to Valentina

Well, it was certainly exciting to read Mark Zimmaro’s report on the accomplishments of Neumann-Goretti High School senior volleyball champion Valentina Conte (“N-G’s fearless Conte reaches volleyball milestone,” Oct. 7).

This young lady indeed has amazing courage in a sport where she has suffered painful injuries while improving her game skills. It doesn’t stop her from achieving one record after another. Brava!

I was particularly impressed by her determination to excel in spite of the risk of getting hurt. She accomplished her goal to reach 500, a record number of volleyball digs, or preventing an attacked ball from hitting the floor.

Of course, as an alumna of Goretti, when it was all girls, I always root for these great female athletes as well as true scholars. Valentina is both. Among other honors she is a member of the National Honor Society. I wish her the best as she enters college next year. Valentina and others like her make me proud to call that high school my alma mater.
