

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association recently presented Tacony Academy Charter School athletic administrator Paul Rieser with the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association State Award of Merit during its 57th annual conference and awards ceremony at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center
Rieser is in his ninth year on the job. He oversees 32 athletic programs at the high school and middle school level.
Under his supervision, the athletic department has been recognized nationally by the National
Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and the National Federation of State High School Association. In 2023, Tacony Academy was awarded the Quality Program Assessment Award, becoming one of only 40 schools nationwide to receive the QPA.
In 2020, the National Federation of State High School Association honored Tacony Academy as the first high school in the nation to earn Level 3 of NFHS National School Honor Roll. In 2021, Tacony Academy Middle School was the first middle school in Philadelphia to earn NFHS National School Honor Roll Level 1.
Rieser serves on the Executive Council of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association. He serves as the State Mentorship Chairperson. He also serves on the PIAA District XII Committee and is the Vice Chairman of the Philadelphia Public League.
Rieser is a board member of the Philadelphia Public League Coaches Association, serving as the charter school and middle school representative. He is also the associate commissioner of the Metropolitan Philadelphia Athletic Association. He is active in the NIAAA as an LTI instructor and a certified CAA test administrator. Since 2017, he has assisted in certifying more than 50 Philadelphia-area athletic directors in at least one of the four NIAAA national certifications.
Formerly, Rieser served as the athletic director and women’s basketball coach at Harcum College. He also served as women’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director at Chestnut Hill College.
Rieser retired from the city Department of Human Services – Division of Juvenile Justice in 2015 after 20 years of service.
Rieser is married with two adult daughters and two grandchildren. ••
