Northeast Catholic High School alumni last week gathered on the former high school’s steps as part of the 100th anniversary of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales ministry in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the opening of the school.
Joining alums were a number of Oblates who served as presidents, principals, faculty members and coaches or are school graduates. The group included the Revs. Jack Kolodziej, Vince Smith, James Dalton, Bob Bazzoli, Joe DiMauro and Ed Ogden and Brother Jim Williams. The Falcon mascot also made an appearance.
The men wore North Catholic shirts and sports jerseys, held signs of their graduating year, sang the alma mater and chanted, “We are NC.”
Earlier in the summer, a Norphans at the Beach reunion took place at Keenan’s in North Wildwood.
Next, the alumni association will hold a golf outing on Sept. 22 at North Hills Country Club.
On Oct. 3, from 1-5 p.m., there will be a Homecoming/all-year reunion at Cannstatter’s.
On Nov. 1, All Saints Day, there will be a Mass at the former North Catholic building, followed by coffee and doughnuts.
Alumni, family and friends will gather on Nov. 8 at FOP Lodge 5.
The alumni association will again celebrate Veterans Day on Nov. 11 at St. Dominic.
North Catholic was located at 1842 E. Torresdale Ave. until it closed in 2010. Today, the building is home to Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School, a K-12 school.
