Kudos all around

Kudos to Mayor Parker, the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Police Department, FIFA, MLB and the Philadelphia Phillies on all the planning and execution of the America 250, FIFA soccer tournaments and baseball All-Star events. Things went pretty smoothly, the events were a lot of fun, and people were safe as they enjoyed the various festivities. The transition between events seemed to have gone well also. All these events show off the positive aspects of our city.

Parker’s recurring funding source – downtrodden taxpayer

The city saves the school district again. While major corporations are laying off 10-15% of their employees because of downsizing the district that has shed students since the ‘70s hasn’t had major layoffs. Why? Because the city has a “recurring funding” source. It’s called the downtrodden Philadelphian taxpayer. Parker is already trying to get the state to approve the extra 2% sales tax on online sales. What’s next, showing your ID when you buy soda and cigarettes in the surrounding counties? The city would have that 2% if they didn’t overtax those products. So, get ready Philadelphians, it’s coming. Can you say “new tax.” It’s coming. When and how much because $200M doesn’t grow on the tree in the backyard, as my father used to say.
