The emergency department at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and the Goodman Emergency Trauma Center at Jefferson Abington Hospital were recognized as recipients of the 2026 Emergency Nurses Association’s Lantern Award for innovation and evidence-based practice improvements that resulted in improved patient care and staff well-being.
“It is truly gratifying to see our emergency room nursing teams honored for their exceptional commitment to patient care and safety,” said Michelle Conley, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Jefferson Health – North Region. “Lantern designation reflects the culture of safety and teamwork that is firmly entrenched in our emergency departments.”
Jefferson Torresdale and Abington hospitals were among only six hospitals in Pennsylvania to receive the recognition this round. To be considered for a Lantern Award, departments must submit a comprehensive application that measures the ways they excel at meeting challenges, that range from emergency department boarding, to lowering the time it takes for stroke patients to receive care, to enhancing nurse professional development. A committee scores applications to determine annual recipients.
Jefferson Torresdale and Jefferson Abington hospitals are among 126 recipients from across the country that will be recognized in upcoming Emergency Nurses Association publications, on the association’s website and during Emergency Nursing 2026, the association’s annual conference in Phoenix, Sept. 28 to Oct. 1.
“The Lantern recognizes something incredibly special. It isn’t an award for an individual or an entire hospital — it’s a recognition earned by an emergency department and the team that powers it every day,” said ENA President Dustin Bass. ••
