Elected officials and board members gathered at the Ashburner Inn to honor Barbara Deeley, who retired as executive director of Northeast Victim Service.
Deeley will remain a volunteer advocate for the agency.
Deeley has been a longtime Democratic committeewoman, been a member of the Democratic State Committee and was a founding member of Philadelphia Democratic Women. She was a charter member of the Rhawnhurst Civic Association and a supporter of the Rhawnhurst Athletic Association.
Deeley worked for many years in the sheriff’s office, serving as a deputy sheriff officer, constituent service liaison, chief of staff and chief deputy sheriff. Then-Gov. Ed Rendell appointed her to serve as sheriff for a year in 2011.
Lisa Deeley, her daughter, is a city elections commissioner and attended the Nov. 8 party at the Ashburner.
During the event, Barbara Deeley was presented with a proclamation and a framed American flag that was flown over the Capitol by U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle.
State Sen. Jimmy Dillon, state Rep. Pat Gallagher and City Councilman Mike Driscoll presented her with citations. The state House citation was also signed by Rep. Ed Neilson. The office of Mayor Cherelle Parker also presented her with a citation.
Among others in attendance were Northeast Victim Service board chairman Pat Parkinson and Tom Neveil, who succeeds Deeley as executive director. Neveil bought flowers for the outgoing executive director.
