Lilian J. Shin-Cho, an Assistant Professor in the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, was recently selected as an American Psychosocial Oncology Society 2025 Health Equity Scholar.

Health Equity Scholars are recognized each year by APOS as individuals who have exceptional potential for leadership in cancer equity. Those recognized with this honor have access to tailored mentorship as well as complimentary registrations to the APOS conference and membership for two years. They are also invited to present their health equity work at the organization’s annual conference.
The mission of APOS is to advance evidence-based and equitable psychosocial oncology care through research, practice, education and advocacy. The organization has 672 members representing 56 professions in the field across the United States.
Shin-Cho’s research interests include psychological well-being in cancer patients who are members of collectivist cultures, which emphasize the needs and goals of the group in addition to those of the individual. Additionally, her research focuses on developing culturally tailored psychosocial interventions that aim to increase mental health among members of collectivist cultures living with cancer as well as those who care for those individuals.
Prior to joining Fox Chase in February 2024, Shin-Cho was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where she was a member of the Cancer Prevention Research Training Program and received the 2023 Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow in Cancer Prevention Award.
Shin-Cho earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. She earned a master’s and a doctoral degree in psychology from the University of California, Riverside.
Over the course of her career, Shin-Cho has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Psycho-Oncology and The Journal of Positive Psychology and has presented her research at national behavioral medicine conferences.
She is also a member of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. ••
