Guests heard from business council chairman Frank Porrazza; Jefferson Chief Operating Officer – North Region Richard Galup; Dr. Marcia Brose, Chief of Cancer Services, Jefferson Health – Northeast; and Christina Bender, director of development of Jefferson Health’s Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center and Clinical Programs.

Galup spoke of the academic-level of care offered at Jefferson Torresdale. He mentioned thrombectomy, a minimally invasive procedure that helps restore blood flow to the brain by removing a blood clot in an artery or vein. He also pointed to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, where patients have access to the latest developments in cancer research, technology and treatment. The National Cancer Institute has designated it as a comprehensive care center.

Medical equipment is expensive, Galup said, adding he is grateful for the philanthropy that allows Jefferson Torresdale to offer top care close to home for many patients.

Bender spoke of Ride Hard Breathe Easy’s third annual golf outing on Friday, May 16, at Five Ponds Golf Club in Warminster. Proceeds benefit lung cancer patients. Register at https://givebutter.com/RHBEGolf2025.

Dr. Marcia Brose, Chief of Cancer Services at Jefferson Health – Northeast, said six more exam rooms are soon to open at the campus. She also mentioned the strong credentials of the oncology nursing staff and patient navigators and an outpatient pharmacy that is open weekdays.

“We have this amazing, amazing group of people,” she said.

Brose stressed the importance of the center offering clinical trials in every cancer area, which she said lead to improved care. Mammograms and screenings for colon and lung cancer are also prioritized, she said. The center, she said, uses best practices for its chemotherapy regimens, and one day, she hopes the center can perform bone marrow transplants.

“The actual ‘care’ care is second to none,” she said.

Brose said the center has a good partner in McMenamin Family ShopRite, which supports the center’s food pantry for patients.

Charlie Kueny, president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, was impressed with what he heard.

“It is so amazing to see what is going on at this campus in the Northeast,” he said. ••
