State Rep. Jared Solomon announced at last week’s 15th Police District Advisory Council meeting that he is establishing a residential street-cleaning program in the 202nd Legislative District.
Solomon explained that the state-funded program will clean each street in his district once a month.
The lawmaker will work with a company called Glitter, which will also identify quality-of-life issues on each block, such as high grass and abandoned cars.
Solomon hopes the program will fill in some of the holes with the city’s 311 system. He said that, while he considers the Community LIfe Improvement Program to be the best in the city, he believes issues with the Department of Licenses and Inspections are often not resolved.
Meanwhile, Solomon invites constituents to a holiday party at his office at the Northeast Services Hub, 6434 Castor Ave., on Dec. 12 from 4-6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Others at the meeting included Capt. Marques Newsome, commander of the 15th district, who mentioned the Nov. 22 shooting at Frankford Avenue and Pratt Street. A man was arrested for murder for shooting another man in the head who was stealing his car.
There were complaints about cars double parked, parked on sidewalks and blocking the common driveway. Some of the cars, neighbors say, are double parked even though there are empty spaces on the block.
Aides to state Reps. Pat Gallagher and Joe Hohenstein attended the meeting.
Hohenstein is teaming with the 15th and 24th police districts for an open house and holiday toy drive at his office at 4725 Richmond St., on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Hohenstein is also partnering with U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle, state Sen. Tina Tartaglione and City Councilwoman Quetcy Lozada for a shredding event on Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Wissinoming Park, 5801 Frankford Ave. ••
