The McMenamin Family ShopRite at 9901 Frankford Ave. in Morrell Plaza last week hosted a ceremony to celebrate administrative assistant Lisa Burns and front-end manager Michelina Hellyer appearing on boxes of Cheerios.

The store raised more than $8,000 during the annual ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest, sponsored in partnership with General Mills.

Money was raised in a variety of ways, including customer donations at checkout and employee dine-in/takeout events at places such as the Spuddy Buddy Fry Factory.

Burns and Hellyer were among the most active employees during the fundraising drive, earning them a spot on Cheerios boxes that will be sold through March.

Burns is pictured with a baseball glove, while Hellyer is holding a bat, and the two were given trading cards to hand out to family and friends.

Burns and Hellyer were presented the special-edition Cheerios boxes by the co-workers who appeared on the boxes last year, cashier Loretta Connelly and deli manager Andrea Sonday.

The bakery department created an elaborate cake that featured replicas of Citizens Bank Park, the Union soccer stadium, the art museum/Rocky steps, the Love Statue and more.

ShopRite donated $2,500 each to Caring for Friends and the cancer patient food pantry at Jefferson Health.

Others in attendance included representatives of the 8th Police District, the office of state Rep. Ed Neilson and General Mills.

In all, the 286 ShopRite stores raised $1.3 million during Hunger Action Month in September. The top 47 stores were able to select employees to appear on Cheerios boxes. ••
