McMenamin Family ShopRite, 9910 Frankford Ave. (at Morrell Avenue), last week hosted a Help Bag Hunger event, held in recognition of September being national Hunger Action Month.
The theme was Mission: End Hunger.
Among those bagging groceries were state Rep. Ed Neilson, aides Marie Smith and Helene Custren and 8th Police District community relations officer Chris Hanejko and victims assistance officer Chalie Squares.
ShopRite customers were asked if they wanted to round up their bills to the nearest dollar or to make a donation, while the store sold raffle tickets as part of the fundraiser.
The event is in its 27th year.
Meanwhile, ShopRite Partners in Caring will present Jack and Jill Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 26, at St. Katherine of Siena McBride Hall, 9738 Frankford Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. The games go from 7-10 p.m. There will be 10 games, a 50-50, raffle baskets and door prizes. The cost is $30 in advance and $40 at the door. The event is for those 21 and older, and participants can bring their own food and drink. Proceeds go to help fight hunger. Call 215-637-1555. ••
