State Sen. Joe Picozzi recently held the first Tacony Community Arts Day on the 6900 block of Torresdale Ave.
The Aug. 1 event was in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia and Tacony LAB Community Art Center, 6918 Torresdale Ave.
Torresdale Avenue, from Longshore Avenue to Disston Street, was closed to traffic.
Picozzi presented a citation to Jane Golden, the retiring longtime executive director of Mural Arts, and a $25,000 grant to Tacony LAB, accepted by program manager Barb Baur.
The day included local artisan vendors, a food truck, a fashion show by the Tacony LAB Teen Club, school backpack giveaways and live music by Michael McCullough and Cody Stuhltrager.
Among those in attendance were state Reps. Pat Gallagher and Joe Hohenstein, legislative candidates Bill Griffin and Robyn Bird and the Rev. Joseph Farrell, pastor of Our Lady of Consolation. ••
