The city Departments of Streets and Parks and Recreation, in partnership with PennDOT and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, officially opened the Pennypack Path Connector Trail project with a ribbon-cutting event near State Road and Rhawn Street.

The new segment links the Pennypack Path to the Pennypack Trail at State and Rhawn, creating a 10.3-mile connection from the Delaware River to Bristol Road in Bucks County.

The project provides a new safe crossing of State Road for cyclists and pedestrians with a concrete refuge island in the center of the road. There were also modifications to traffic signals, line striping, ADA ramp installations, sidewalks along a curb extension of the cartway and Water Department green stormwater infrastructure.

Seravalli Inc. performed the construction. The cost was paid for with $1.2 million in city and federal funds.

Among those at the event were Kristin Del Rossi, commissioner, streets department; Susan Slawson, commissioner, Parks and Recreation; City Councilman Mike Driscoll; state Sen. Jimmy Dillon; state Rep. Pat Gallagher; and Stephanie Phillips, executive director, Riverfront North Partnership.

Driscoll said the trail helps break down the barriers due to I-95, praising the partnership between the government and private sector, specifically Phillips and Riverfront North Partnership. ••
