Glen Foerd offers summer river program

The East Torresdale Civic Association last week had a short meeting, as the scheduled speaker from the city Office of Emergency Management did not show up.

Here is what happened:

• Ross Mitchell, executive director of Glen Foerd, 5001 Grant Ave., encouraged people to go to glenfoerd.org to check out upcoming events. Applications are being taken for River Ambassadors, a six-week summer program that is open to high school juniors and seniors. Those completing the program will receive $1,000.

• The city sanitation convenience center at 8401 State Road (at Ashburner Street) will accept household hazardous waste on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Stan Cywinski, an aide to City Councilman Mike Driscoll, said speed cameras will be installed on Frankford Avenue “shortly.” Cywinski added that police will be patrolling Academy Road to slow traffic.

• ETCA president Joe Carson won the 50-50 and donated the money back to the group.

• East Torresdale Civic Association will meet on Monday, April 14, at 7 p.m. at All Saints’ Torresdale Episcopal Church, 9601 Frankford Ave. ••
