City Council honored Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor Colman Domingo with an honorary resolution in recognition of his contributions to film and his recent Academy Award nomination. Councilwoman Rue Landau (D-at large) presented the resolution during a special ceremony at City Hall on March 27.

Domingo, a West Philadelphia native and LGBTQ+ artist, was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 97th Academy Awards for his portrayal of John “Divine G” Whitfield in the film Sing Sing. He also received an Oscar nomination the year prior for his performance of Bayard Rustin, a Philly-area civil rights activist and LGBTQ+ trailblazer known for organizing the March on Washington in 1963.

As the first openly LGBTQ+ councilmember in Philadelphia, Landau celebrated Domingo not only for his artistic excellence but for his role in breaking barriers and representing diverse communities in the entertainment industry.

During his visit to City Hall, Domingo met with Council President Kenyatta Johnson, fellow councilmembers and state Rep. Andre Carroll to express gratitude for the recognition from his home city. ••
