Truist announced a five-year partnership with First Tee – Greater Philadelphia, which offers youth golf classes at a number of sites, including the John F. Byrne Golf Club and the Topgolf location at 2140 Byberry Road.
The announcement was made at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, in Flourtown, home of the Truist Championship, a PGA event to be held May 8-11.
Among those at the news conference were Joie Chitwood, Truist Championship executive director; Truist Chairman and CEO Bill Rogers; Travis Rhodes, Truist regional president; and Bill Hyndman, CEO of First Tee – Greater Philadelphia.
Hyndman was joined by two teenage First Tee golfers,Roxborough resident Caitlyn Plover and Germantown resident Devin Carpenter.
The Truist Championship has a $20 million purse. The field will consist of 70 players, and there will be no cut, meaning golfers will play all four rounds.
CBS will broadcast the third and fourth rounds of the tournament.
Tickets are sold out for Saturday, May 10, and mostly sold out for Friday, May 9.
More than 1,600 people have signed up as volunteers.
