Long-term school directors are being honored across the state by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association at local board meetings for years of service from eight to 36 years.

The Bensalem Township School District recognized and honored Kim J. Rivera for 15 years of service to the district. She was presented with a certificate of recognition at the Oct. 22 school board meeting, adding her to the PSBA “Honor Roll of School Board Service.”

Rivera serves or has served on the following committees: Business; Technology; Facilities; Board Policy; Personnel; Bucks County Technical High School Joint Board; Bensalem Township Memorial Stadium and Bensalem High School Hall of Fame Committee; Co-Curricular Advisory Council; Bensalem Township Council/School Board Liaison; Bensalem High School 100th Anniversary; Bensalem Education Foundation; and Just for the Kids Education Foundation.

Superintendent Dr. Sam Lee said, “Mrs. Rivera has been a tireless advocate for the children of Bensalem. Her 15 years of service on the Bensalem Township school board has seen the introduction of full-day kindergarten, a massive renovation of our high school combined with expansion of program options, including districtwide STEM, a career pathways model and professional development platforms, like our partnership with Professional Learning Partnerships LLC for neurosciences.

“As a proud BHS alum, Rivera was delighted to serve on the Bensalem High School 100th Anniversary Committee. Additionally, she was instrumental in bringing the Chromebook 1:1 initiative to our students. Under the watch of Mrs. Rivera, the district is a ‘Districts of Distinction’ honoree, and also received the ‘Best Communities for Music Education’ Award in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

“Bensalem High School has been recognized as a Naval Honor School for three consecutive years. Several Bensalem elementary and middle schools were ranked among the best from a list ranking more than 80,000 public schools across the United States by U.S. News & World Report, and Bensalem High School has been recognized as a top high school. Bensalem is one of 21 districts in Pennsylvania that have joined the Learning 2025 network of demonstration systems, a collaborative network of districts to help advance student-centered, equity-focused, future-driven education, administered by AASA, the School Superintendents Association. All of this in the most challenging times for public education.”
