Is East Passyunk the most underrated neighborhood in the city? Is the Academy of Music the best place to see a play? Are the Mummers your favorite event of the year?

All of these topics are up for a vote as Visit Philadelphia announced the finalists for The Liberty Bells, the second annual awards recognizing the city’s most beloved attractions, businesses and cultural institutions.

There’s plenty of South Philly flavor among the nominees and residents have an opportunity to represent their favorite attractions in the upcoming vote.

“Philadelphians take great pride in their city, and there’s no one better to champion the businesses, attractions and people who make this region a must-visit destination,” said Angela Val, president and CEO of Visit Philadelphia. “Celebrating what makes Philadelphia special strengthens our sense of community, and that enthusiasm is contagious. Visitors feel it, experience it and are inspired to come back for more.”

Visit Philadelphia collected more than 1,600 nominations and narrowed it down to 30 Philadelphia-based finalists in 10 categories. Launched last year, The Liberty Bells coincide with awards season (the Academy Awards, Grammys, etc.) and were created to showcase the diverse offerings within the region chosen by residents of the city.

Mummers fans can show their passion by voting the annual New Years Day parade in “The Philly Event That Makes Your Year Every Year” category. It’s up against Mermaids at Adventure Aquarium and The Tapcracker at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre.

Who will receive recognition as “The Theater That Gives NYC A Run for Its Money”? Broad Street mainstays The Academy of Music and the Wilma Theater are up against Arden Theatre Company for bragging rights.

As far as “Most Slept-On Neighborhood” goes, voters have a choice among Fishtown, Fairmount and South Philly’s East Passyunk.

East Passyunk Avenue’s South Fellini is up for “The Best Spot to Score Philly Swag,” competing against Minor Details Philly and Open House.

Other categories include “The New Must-Visit in Philly’s 4.0 Food Scene,” “Philly’s Cultural Powerhouse Award,” “The ‘In Pursuit’ Award (for changemakers),” “The Museum/Attraction Most Worthy of Your Membership,” “The Hotel Lobby with the Best Vibe” and “The Only Locals Know Award”.

Voting is open through March 21 at visitphilly.com/libertybells, giving the public the chance to crown their favorites. Winners will be announced on March 25, on Visit Philadelphia’s social media channels.

“Philly loves a good debate — whether it’s the best neighborhood, hottest new restaurant or top skyline view,” said Eric Cortes, senior director of social media of Visit Philadelphia. “People rep their favorites on social media all year long, so The Liberty Bells are the perfect way to make it official. With awards season in full swing, we’re excited to celebrate the best of Philly — and, of course, give the winners some well-earned bragging rights.”
