The fight continues, but at a new location.

The Susan G. Komen’s signature More Than Pink Walk, which raises money annually for the fight against breast cancer, will take place on May 18 at the Navy Yard Marine Parade Grounds for the first time. The event was previously held in the city’s Fashion District.

The event raises donations to help survivors and patients fighting metastatic breast cancer, providing them hope through research discoveries, patient support and public policy in the pursuit to help end breast cancer. Last year, more than 3,000 participants gathered for the goal, and throughout 43 years of fundraising, Susan G. Komen has invested $1.1 billion into lifesaving research.

“Susan G. Komen is integral to the progress we’ve made in detecting and treating breast cancer and has been there for patients every step of the way, helping them face this disease with care and compassion,” said Amy Hamilton, a longtime Walk participant, fundraiser and breast cancer survivor. “Over the last 20-plus years, I’ve seen the difference Komen makes in the lives of everyone impacted by breast cancer and I’m grateful the money I’ve helped raise has advanced Komen’s mission and literally saved lives.”

The family-friendly event begins by honoring the strength and resilience of survivors, patients and those lost to metastatic breast cancer during an opening ceremony. Participants will then embark on a 3.1-mile walk, followed by celebrations at Hope Village, featuring snacks, photo opportunities and educational activities. The event starts at 8 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m.

Participants of all ages are welcome to walk free of charge. For those who prefer a shorter walk, a 1-mile route is available. Interested participants can join a team, create a new team or sign up as an individual. Donations are also accepted on Susan G. Komen’s website.
