Nutritious food key to a healthy life
It was both gratifying and uplifting to read the article by reporter Jon Diaz on the new hunger-prevention program being introduced by City Council (“A historic moment in the battle against hunger and inequality,” July 15).
The steps are both intricate and impressively daring in the face of government reduction in hunger-fighting programs. The article describes, for example, a Food and Nutrition Task Force and other groups determined to find solutions to food insecurity problems in Philadelphia. Experts from all areas of this issue are joining forces to come up with a workable solution.
I was especially impressed by the recommendation to create a permanent office to coordinate all kinds of groups including schools and healthcare systems to make access to food and nutrition a permanent part of our urban community. It is more than valuable. It is lifesaving.
