A longtime East Passyunk Avenue favorite has entered a new era.

Gnocchi’s, the BYOB restaurant at 613 E. Passyunk Ave., has reopened under the ownership of Maria Enokian and chef Ryan Moore, who say they plan to preserve the restaurant’s 36-year legacy while introducing a fresh Italian American fusion menu.

Founded in 1989 at the former Ristorante San Carlo, Gnocchi’s became a neighborhood institution under longtime owner Missoum Khemici, who retired earlier this year after decades of serving South Philadelphia diners.

Enokian said taking over the restaurant is about more than operating a business.

“Life is short,” Enokian said. “This restaurant has witnessed generations come and go. So savor every moment, cherish every breath, and remember, even the darkest days can be softened by hospitality, compassion and a memorable meal. I would love people to dream of working here and dream of eating here someday.”

Moore said the new menu reflects both Italian tradition and his own culinary vision.

“Food means the world to me,” Moore said. “And cooking is its finest language. At this kitchen, we treat every batch as a craft, honoring tradition while reimagining what casual fine dining can taste like.”

The revamped menu combines classic Italian dishes with contemporary American influences. Housemade ricotta mascarpone gnocchi and wild mushroom ravioli remain alongside new offerings such as a 14-ounce prime ribeye with blackberry brandy gastrique, braised lamb shank with smoked gouda polenta, fettuccine Boscaiola with provolone-stuffed chorizo and branzino stuffed with mussels and shrimp in a curry broth. Desserts include homemade tiramisu, limoncello mascarpone cake and sweet potato bread pudding.

Located in the heart of the East Passyunk dining district, Gnocchi’s is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday. Reservations are accepted via SevenRooms at gnocchi-restaurant.com. ••
