One of the city’s largest and longest-running food festivals returns to East Passyunk Avenue on April 28 as Flavors on the Avenue returns for its 18th year.
From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District will welcome both guests and locals to take part in the annual festivities that include great food and music from Broad to Dickinson streets.
It’s an all-day, all-ages celebration that promotes local businesses in South Philly.
“Flavors on the Avenue started back in 2007 and has grown to become one of the most popular outdoor food festivals in Philadelphia,” said EPABID Board President Michelle Gillen-Doobrajh, who is also the owner of Tildie’s Toy Box and Tiny Tildie’s. “Flavors is the Avenue’s invitation for people from across the region to share our love of food.”
Five blocks of street food, seasonal sips, craft beer, live music and sidewalk sales take over the sidewalks along the famous avenue with more than two dozen of Philadelphia’s top restaurants, cafes and bars participating, including Barcelona Wine Bar, Bing Bing Dim Sum, Cantina Los Caballitos, Le Virtu, Ember & Ash, Flannel, Milk Jawn, Noir, Ocho Rios Parrilla, Pistolas Del Sur, Pizzata Pizzeria and Birreria, P’UNK burger, Stogie Joes, Townsend and Vanilya Bakery.
Guests can anticipate more than 100 vendors lining the street, including more than 80 artists and makers curated by Nice Things Handmade. Kids can look forward to balloons, a bounce house, arts and crafts, games and more.
“It is a time to come together and celebrate the top chefs and restaurants that make East Passyunk one of the top food destinations in America,” Gillen-Doobrajh said. “It is also the chance to explore our fast-growing retail scene, while supporting local small businesses. Come for the food and the drink, but stay for the music, the community, the activities and the shopping. Make it a day with us on East Passyunk.”
Music lovers can pick their spots with a robust lineup of local bands and singers taking over four locations throughout the day.
At the Singing Fountain, catch Mia Johnson (11:30 a.m.), Batala (1:45 p.m.) and Skip Winters (3 p.m.)
Watkins Street will feature Cheddar Boys at noon, City Rhythm at 1:45 p.m. and Brown Sugar at 3:30 p.m. Playing at Mifflin Triangle will be Mike Carney at 11 a.m. and Andrea Amoroso at 2:30 p.m. Juniper Street will welcome Emily Drinker at noon and Cordelia Blue at 2 p.m.
DJ Lindsay will be in the PPA lot all day, while East Passyunk legend Stogie Joes will have festival-goers dancing in the street from start to end with tunes from Frank Sintatra followed by a DJ at Moore Street.
