Carpenters’ Hall Presents a Dialogue with Philadelphia Faith Leaders – From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at American Philosophical Society, Benjamin Franklin Hall, 427 Chestnut St., the First Continental Congress in fall 1774 set the stage for American independence with 56 delegates from 12 colonies. An invocation by Christ Church rector Rev. Jacob Duche, who established a tradition of congressional prayer. Now, 250 years later, leaders from Philadelphia’s historic congregations will explore the role of faith in the Revolution and its place in contemporary American democracy. Amy Jane Cohen – Educator, historian and author of “Black History in the Philadelphia Landscape” will talk about her book at 7 p.m. at the Historic Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church, 916 S. Swanson St. After a general overview of her book, she’ll focus on the fascinating history of the All Wars Memorial to Colored Soldiers and Sailors, a 1934 monument that sits at 20th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, across from the Franklin Institute. Fall for the Arts Festival – From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the 40th annual Fall for the Arts Festival, transforming Germantown Avenue into an outdoor arts and crafts marketplace. This family-friendly event features live demonstrations, children’s activities, live music, culinary delights and boutique shopping. The 8000 to 8600 blocks of Germantown Avenue will be closed to traffic. The festival showcases over 200 artists and vendors, offering a diverse array of art, including oils, watercolors, photography, sculpture, pottery, wood crafts, jewelry and accessories.

Paul Revere’s Philadelphia Connection – from 5:30 to 7 p.m., to mark the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride to the First Continental Congress, Carpenters’ Hall is teaming up with the Paul Revere House in Boston, and the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry to shed light on this forgotten chapter of American history. Witness Revere’s arrival by horse and hear from Revere himself and his fellow Bostonian John Adams, who was a delegate to the First Continental Congress, about the crucial news Revere delivered on his Philadelphia rides and how it impacted the course of the American Revolution.
