Nice to see shipbuilder expand
As a lifelong resident of South Philly, I was both delighted and encouraged to read last week’s article about business expansion in Philadelphia Navy Yard (“Hanwha Philly Shipyard adds to its footprint,” Sept. 30).
All my life I’ve heard about neighbors in South Philly getting jobs in the Navy Yard helping to build ships. Now it seems that this industry has become even more productive. As the article states, Hanwha Philly Shipyard just signed a major lease for three floors of office space in the huge building at 201 Rouse Blvd.
So, of course, this means lots of new jobs for both office employees and ship builders. It means that job openings will continue to increase as Hanwha grows its business.
I was especially glad to read that executive vice president of the Navy Yard, Katie McNamara, predicts even more expansion of the shipbuilding industry. This means, of course, more job opportunities for residents of South Philly.
So thanks as always to the South Philly Review for reporting this wonderful news. It means that our part of the city is improving and growing. Well done.
