Skye Neulight, a community outreach specialist at the Philadelphia Water Department, spoke at last week’s Take Back Your Neighborhood meeting.
Neulight handed out a packet that included information on Green City, Clean Waters, an initiative to reduce sewer overflows; the Water Department’s offer of free rain barrels; an Oct. 3 open house at the Southwest Water Pollution Control Plant for people interested in working for the Water Department; and the department’s most recent Drinking Water Quality Report.
The packet also included flyers on planned infrastructure improvements on Frontenac Street, Leonard Street, Knorr Street, Unruh Avenue, Princeton Avenue, Everett Avenue, Loretto Avenue, Sylvester Street, Eastwood Street, Horrocks Street, Rutland Street and Lynford Street and at Tarken Playground and Solis-Cohen Elementary School.

• Joshua Goodin, of the state attorney general’s Office of Public Engagement, discussed scams and presented “The Scammer’s Playbook.” Goodin said senior citizens are not their only target. “Scammers are after everybody,” he said. • Lt. Eric Brooks, of the 2nd Police District, provided a crime update. TBYN usually hears from community relations officer Mark Mroz, but he was celebrating his birthday. Brooks mentioned an incident that took place on Sept. 19, at about 5:56 p.m., on the 1400 block of Levick St. Two men were engaged in a fistfight when one of them shot the other. The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital. An arrest was made.
• State Sen. Tina Tartaglione will hold four senior expos on upcoming Thursdays, all from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Caregivers are also invited. The schedule is Oct. 1 at Franklin Towne Charter High School, 5301 Tacony St.; Oct. 8 at Community Academy Charter School, 1100 E.
