Eagles linebacker Jalyx Hunt on Tuesday visited Little Flower High School, bringing the Lombardi Trophy and announcing that he was establishing three scholarships and an endowment.
The third-year player’s relationship with Little Flower when he was a rookie in 2024. That’s when he started a GoFundMe fundraiser for underfunded sports programs, including LF’s basketball team.
Hunt visited the all-girls school on Sept. 15, bringing the Lombardi Trophy the Eagles won two seasons ago in Super Bowl LIX. In that game, Hunt recorded a half-sack of Patrick Mahomes in the Eagles’ blowout victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hunt also announced, in honor of his mom, sister, grandmother and marketing agent/publicist, the following scholarships:
• J.R. Hunt Scholarship, a full two-year scholarship for a student who demonstrates a desire to pursue classroom education.
• Alice R. Hunt Family Support Scholarship, a full four-year scholarship for a student with significant involvement in extracurricular activities.
• Jess Hunt Pursuit of Medicine Scholarship, a full four-year scholarship for a student with a strong interest in science, particularly a student participating in STEM-related activities through the Klarich Center.
• The Rachel Booth Media/Storytelling Endowment for a student interested in the sports industry, storytelling/media and community service.
Hunt was joined at the event by Booth, whom he met at Cornell.
Kristie Dugan, president of Little Flower, announced junior Laniah Brooks as the first winner of the J.R. Hunt Scholarship.
The ceremony took place in the auditorium, with balloons on stage in the colors of Little Flower and the Eagles.
A night earlier, Hunt gave Little Flower a shout-out on his new WIP radio show.
Junior Cydney Booker led the LF community in singing the Eagles’ Victory Song., and everyone said an “Our Father” for Hunt.
Senior Student Government officers Isabella Clark, Selena Richardson, Lucy Thompson and Gabriella Ganges presented Hunt with a Little Flower jar filled with pieces of paper containing inspirational quotes and Scripture sayings.
Dugan, wearing an Eagles dress, told Hunt that “500 of your closest friends will be praying for you.”
Dugan was also happy with the Eagles’ opening-game victory over the Washington Commanders two days earlier, but complained that the officials overlooked Hunt being held.
“Don’t get me fined,” Hunt joked. “The refs did a great job.” ••
