Vicinity Energy hosted a community appreciation event for neighbors near its South Philadelphia operations, thanking local residents while highlighting the role of Philadelphia’s district energy system.
The gathering featured a live drum line (pictured in photo), tacos and ice cream, along with safety gear demonstrations led by Vicinity staff. Residents also had the opportunity to speak with employees about the company’s plant operations and ask questions about its work in the neighborhood.
Remarks from Councilwoman Nina Ahmad and Vicinity Chief Sustainability Officer Matt O’Malley emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong partnership between the energy provider and surrounding neighborhoods.

The event also served as an opportunity to explain Vicinity’s district energy system, which provides thermal energy services to more than 400 buildings across Philadelphia.
Company officials said the event was intended to strengthen relationships with neighbors while increasing public awareness of the infrastructure that supplies heating and cooling to many of the city’s hospitals, universities and commercial buildings. ••
