The 2nd Police District has another new commander, Capt. Andrew DiSanto.
DiSanto appeared at the Take Back Your Neighborhood meeting on the first day of his new assignment. He replaced Capt. Scott DiDonato, commander for 11 months. DiDonato was sent to night command, where DiSanto had been.
Before DiDonato, Capt. Marc Metellus was in command for 14 months. Before Metellus, Capt. Jim Kimrey was on the job for 13 months.
DiSanto, 56, of South Philadelphia, has 27 years with the department, including a stint as commander of the 26th district.
The new commander was joined by community relations officer Mark Mroz, victims assistance officer Dave Brown and officers Sharrod Davis and Hilda Serrano.
Mroz said there were about 500 fans at Five Points celebrating the Eagles’ NFC championship victory and some 1,000 fans celebrating the Super Bowl win.
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel will hold a town hall on March 13 at 6 p.m. at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6401 Martins Mill Road.
In other news from the Feb. 24 meeting:
• State Rep. Jared Solomon and HIAS Pennsylvania will hold a Know Your Rights session for immigrants regardless of their status on March 12 at 5 p.m. at Solomon’s office at 6434 Castor Ave. Participants will learn how to safely interact with immigration authorities and develop a safety plan for their family. • Max Myers Recreation Center, 1601 Hellerman St., will host a flea market on Sunday, March 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Among those in attendance were Talishka Viers, community engagement specialist with City Councilwoman Quetcy Lozada, and Rosemary Jackson and Kevin Rigney, aides, respectively, to Rep. Jared Solomon and state Sen. Tina Tartaglione.
• Take Back Your Neighborhood has purchased a billboard at Castor and Hartel avenues. The billboard reads, “Castor Avenue is not broken,” and encourages people to visit SaveCastorAve.org to support keeping the roadway four lanes instead of the proposed three.
• Glitter, a clean block service, is looking for people to clean streets in Rep. Jared Solomon’s 202nd Legislative District. Workers make $25 per block cleaned. For more information and to apply, visit shareglitter.com/safestepsNE.
Take Back Your Neighborhood will meet on March 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Max Myers. There will be a guest from Turn the Key, a city agency that promotes homeownership. ••
