The Rhawnhurst Civic Association last week welcomed a bunch of guests to its monthly meeting at Pelbano Recreation Center.
Representing the police department were Capt. Scott DiDonato, commander of the 2nd District, and community relations officers Mark Mroz and Al Fiorentino, of the 2nd and 7th districts, respectively.
Fiorentino distributed faraday bags, which are made with materials that, among other things, help prevent car thefts by blocking the signal from your key fob so that thieves can’t pick it up. Car owners place their keys in the bags at home so thieves cannot take advantage of the push-button start option to steal the vehicle.
To report nuisance vehicles and illegally parked trucks and tractor trailers, contact the Philadelphia Parking Authority at 215-683-9630 or PhilaPark.org/Enforcement.
Also addressing the group was Tom Neveil, the new executive director of Northeast Victim Service. Neveil replaced the retired Barbara Deeley, a longtime Rhawnhurst resident. Northeast Victim Service is based at 16 Old Ashton Road, Suite 5. The telephone number is 215-332-3888 to make an appointment or for more information. The agency accompanies victims and witnesses to court and helps victims secure any compensation they are owed. More information can be found at nevs.org or the Northeast Victim Service page on Facebook.
Also attending the meeting were representatives of City Controller Christy Brady, state Reps. Ed Neilson and Sean Dougherty, state Sen. Joe Picozzi and City Councilman Brian O’Neill.
Connie Dougherty, an aide to Picozzi, said his new office is in the Parkwood Shopping Center, at 12361 Academy Road, next to the Philly Pretzel Factory.
Viktor Kagan, chief of staff to Dougherty, said his office is at 7801 Hasbrook Ave., the same office that former Rep. Kevin Boyle had. The phone number is 215-331-2600.
Jill Henon, of Brady’s office, invited members to visit controller.phila.gov to sign up for the Municipal Money Matters newsletter and for information on issues such as elder abuse.
Neighbors complained of numerous cats behind a house on the 8400 block of Algon Ave. Peg Recupido, an aide to O’Neill, said she would contact the city’s animal control. Recupido welcomed constituents to call 215-685-6431 for any city issue. ••
