The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Dec. 14 at Get A Galo at 638 Christian St., and featured plenty of adoptable cats on display while the new partnership was celebrated.

The Colombian-inspired cat café will now be a hub for coffee drinkers to meet their possible forever friends in a cozy atmosphere. The adoption lounge is another outlet to help Morris Animal Refuge continue to find great homes for cats and kittens.

“Our goal has always been to find forever homes for as many animals as possible,” said Lewis Checchia, executive director, Morris Animal Refuge. “Partnering with Get A Gato allows us to showcase our adoptable cats in a setting that fosters bonding and connection.”

Morris Animal Refuge, founded in 1874 and known as one of the longest-serving adoption shelters in the country, provides second chances to thousands of animals each year through innovative animal welfare programs, including adoption, education and high-quality care. It serves approximately 1,200 animals a year.

Get A Gato is a nonprofit organization with a mission to save as many stray cats as possible. It has a Colombian-inspired food and drink café in the front and a cat adoption lounge in the back of the establishment.

Get A Gato will house up to 12 adoptable cats at a time, providing a relaxed atmosphere for visitors to interact and meet their perfect match. Once a match is made, the staff at Get A Gato will help start the adoption process and reserve the cat for the guest. Morris Animal Refuge will then finalize the adoption, allowing the new pet parent to pick up their cat directly from the café.

“It’s a win-win for both the cats and their potential adopters,” Checchia said.

Space is limited. Visitors are strongly encouraged to make reservations to ensure availability as walk-ins are only accepted if there is room. Reservations can be made at https://www.getagato.com/tickets.
