Family Service Association of Bucks County announced that Julie Dees, chief executive officer, will step down from her role on Dec. 20 to pursue a new opportunity. The nonprofit said in a statement that Dees’ dedicated and passionate leadership has left a lasting positive impact on Family Service, strengthening its foundation to ensure continued success in serving the Bucks County community, and that the entire organization extends heartfelt gratitude to Dees for her contributions and best wishes for her future endeavors.

“Serving as CEO of Family Service has been the honor of a lifetime. I am deeply inspired by our staff’s dedication, the resilience of those we serve, and the support of our community. Together, we’ve achieved milestones that will make a lasting impact. As I step away, I am confident in the strength of Family Service and the team who will carry our mission forward,” said Dees. “Leaving Family Service was not an easy choice, but I’m excited to pursue an opportunity allowing me to impact the lives of children and families with The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey, a mission that is close to my heart.”

Kristin DeForest, chief operating officer, will step in as interim CEO, bringing nearly 30 years of proven nonprofit leadership experience. Before joining Family Service in April 2023, she served as the executive director of another Bucks County nonprofit and has held executive roles since 2017. DeForest’s commitment and expertise make her an ideal leader for a seamless transition, as the board of directors conducts an extensive search to select the next CEO.

“I am honored to assume the role of interim CEO for Family Service,” said DeForest. “During this transitional period, my primary focus will be on ensuring seamless operations, upholding our commitment to our mission, ‘We listen, care and help — every day,’ and supporting our dedicated staff — the backbone of our organization. By working together, I am confident that we will continue to provide essential services to our community.”

“On behalf of the board of directors, I want to express our deep gratitude to Julie Dees for her visionary leadership and tireless dedication over the past four-and-a-half years. She has been a driving force in expanding our reach and improving the lives of countless individuals and families,” said Alice Cahill Gens, Family Service board president. “As we embark on this next chapter, we remain committed to building on Julie’s legacy and continuing our vital work with renewed focus and determination.”
