The homeowner built the deck, but now needs Zoning Board of Adjustment approval due to the stairs.

The deck is small, and the next-door neighbor was at the meeting to say he does not object.

In other news from the Nov. 21 meeting:

• Capt. Scott DiDonato and community relations officer Mark Mroz addressed the group. They were joined by officers Shane Albert and Jordan Kim, rookies who will be working a foot beat on Rising Sun Avenue for six months.

DiDonato mentioned the Nov. 19 stabbing at Castor Gardens Middle School (formerly Woodrow Wilson Middle School), committed by an 11-year-old student. Two teacher aides suffered minor injuries, one to a finger and another to the abdomen, DiDonato said.

On a related note, state Rep. Anthony Bellmon plans to meet with the principal to discuss security.

• Bellmon, a member of the House Transportation Committee, expressed concern about SEPTA’s deficit. The next day, Gov. Josh Shapiro announced $153 million for the ailing transit agency.

Bellmon also announced state funding, with money going to the Lawncrest Recreation Center swimming pool and Lawncrest Lions clubhouse. Bellmon is also sending money to the Lawncrest Community Association, which directs the funds to organizations such as VFW Post 2819 and the Lawncrest 4th of July Committee for fireworks.

• The Lawncrest 4th of July Committee will meet on Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. at VFW Post 2819, at 6850 Martins Mill Road.

• Matt McIntyre, an attorney with the Office of Register of Wills, spoke about his work with the office’s title clearance unit. City Council approved the unit, which began its work in August, according to McIntyre, a lifelong Holme Circle resident.

McIntyre said there are no income limits to work with the office on home titles, with one of the goals being a resolution that can lead to generational wealth.

McIntyre said, to prevent fraud, the unit uses public record databases to confirm identification. The unit also asks for Social Security numbers and birth and death certificates.
